For a long time, belonging felt like safety to me. Being invited. Being included. Being liked. Being wanted. My nervous system basically said: “They like us?! GREAT. WE’RE SAFE.” 😅 So I got realllly good at reading the room. Being agreeable. Looking the part. Making people comfortable. Becoming someone who belonged. And it worked. I belonged. The problem? The price of admission was me. Because belonging feels wonderful—but if I have to edit, shrink, perform, dress, speak or choose based on who I think other people want me to be… that kind of belonging is WAY too expensive. It took me much longer than I’d like to admit to realize that real safety couldn’t live entirely in other people’s approval. I had to start building some of it inside myself. And THAT has been a freaking journey. 💔🙃🤯💪 One surprisingly fun part of it has been changing the way I get dressed each morning. Because every morning I get another tiny opportunity to practice: What am I feeling today? What materials would feel so great on my body? What would I choose if nobody else got a vote? Sometimes apparently the answer is elegant and understated. Sometimes it is GIANT FLOWERS ATTACHED TO MY HEAD. 🌸😂 Both are me. And every time I choose from that place, it feels like a tiny vote for myself. That’s The You Reveal. Not creating a more fashionable version of you. Revealing more of the woman who was already there. Because I still deeply want connection. I still want friendship. I still want to belong. I just don’t want to buy belonging with my authenticity anymore. Less of the “Will they like me?” More of the “Do I feel like ME?” 💗 And maybe the people and places where the answer can be both are where we belong most. Tell me: what’s ONE thing you wear, do, or love that feels unapologetically YOU? 👇 #TheYouReveal #DressingFromTheInsideOut #AuthenticStyle #SelfExpression #PersonalStyle
